The Honorable Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Maigari Dingyadi has called on well-meaning Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of developing the Nigerian Force within their limits as part of their contribution to nation building. Dingyadi revealed this during the commissioning of Salame Divisional Police Headquarters, Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto state and the handing over of a brand new operational vehicle given out by Hon. Dr. Abdullahi Balarabe Saleme on Saturday, 9th December, 2019.
Dingyadi praised Hon. Abdullahi Salame, the Honorable Member representing Gwadabawa/illela Federal Constituency for initiating and supporting the completion of the project, while assuring him that the police will make the best use of project and vehicle for better security for the people of the area and its environs.
Highlighting the progress made so far by the Ministry of Police Affairs under his leadership to officers at the event, Dingyadi informed them thus: ”I have inaugurated a ministerial committee of experts that will midwife the formal take- off of the Police Trust Fund by January 2020, which is expected to cater for the training and re-training; provision of modern policing equipment as well as infrastructural development for the police force. I have also inaugurated the Ministerial Project Co-ordination Committee (MPCC) to oversee the implementation of all approved projects and programmes in line with government policy direction”.
Dingyadi went further in revealing further plans of the Ministry to carry out retreat for Senior & junior Police Officers as well as staff of the Police Affairs ministry; Management team tour to all Police formations in the country, to ascertain their needs and proffer solutions.
The IG of police represented by AIG Muhammed solicited for an unflinching support of the community and other stakeholders especially in the area of information inflow in order to ensure a robust community led policing.
“I am hopeful that this “Division” will set a landmark in identifying the new trends of security challenges and the possible way forward for a peaceful and conducive environment”, Muhammed expressed.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command CP Ibrahim Sani ka’oje PSC, informed those present that the new Salame Division was originally an outpost under Gwadabawa Division and was built in the year 1982 with six Police Officers headed by an ASP, but has now being upgraded to Divisional Police Headquarters by the Inspector -General of Police Mohammed A. Adamu NPM,MNI, based on the request and personal commitment of Hon. Abdullahi Balarabe Salame , in order to ensure effective Policing system within the district.
While thanking the Hon. Minister of Police Affairs, the IG of Police and other invited dignitaries, Muhammed used the avenue to sound a note of warning to officers and men posted to the Salame Divisional Headquarters to always respect the fundamental human rights of every individual they come across while discharging your duties and shun all acts of corruption and other vices that may tarnish the image of the Force. He also warned them to desist from handling civil related cases such as land and chieftaincy disputes in order not to attract litigations against the Force.
